Albert Ares, 77, of Alice, passed away Monday, August 6, 2007 in a local nursing home following a long illness. He was a retired warehouseman with Wesco Merchandise. He was born to Richard and Rose Ares on May 5, 1930 in Lowell, MA. He was a veteran having served his country in the Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Ares in 2005.
Survivors include four daughters, Cheryl (Ricardo) Reyes of Alice, Brenda (Ronald) Flory of Anderson, Calif., Beverly (Joe) Quinones of Glendora, Calif., and Lynne (Michael) Nagy of Rancho Cuca Monga, Calif.; two brothers, Frankie Ares of Massachusetts and George Ares of Florida; three sisters, Rosemary Foote of Massachusetts, Francis Weldon of California and Carmen Nickerson of New Hampshire; 12 grandchildren and two great-granchildren.
Memorial graveside funeral services are scheduled for Monday, August 13, 2007 at 4:30 p.m. in Roberson-Collins Cemetery in Alice with the United Veteran Burial Association conducting military honors.

Gerald J. Carlisle, 84, passed away August 8, 2007 at his Alice home. He was born October 19, 1922 in Alice to Olga Mae and John L. Carlisle Sr. He was retired, formerly owned and operated Carlisle General Tire Company in Alice. He was a World War II Army veteran and an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sue Carlisle; son, Collin Carlisle; a sister, Celeste Goldthorn; and two brothers, John L. Carlisle Jr. and Cecil Carlisle.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his daughter, Debbie (John) Jackson of Rockport; his son, George (Kay) Carlisle of Houston; four grandchildren, Whitney (Mike) Fuentes, Taylor Carlisle, Sarah Jackson and Collin Jackson; and two great-grandchildren, Caden and Cooper Fuentes.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 12, 2007 from 1 to 9 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel in Alice. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, August 13, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Alice. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

FREER - San Juanita Perez Casas, 87, a resident of Freer, Texas, died on Thursday, August 9, 2007 in a Laredo Hospital.
She retired from Freer I.S.D. after 27 years of service in the Food Service Department.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan Casas.
Survivors include her son, Ruben (Irene) Casas of Freer, Texas; two daughters, Clementina (Ruben) Pulido and Carolina Casas, both of Freer, Texas; her five grandchildren Ruben Randy Casas, Mia Pulido, Mira Pulido, John Daniel Smith and Mark Allen Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Vistiation was held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas, with Rosary recited that evening. Communion service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Freer, Texas. Burial will follow at La Pila Blanca Cemetery.

ALICE - Kenneth Rex Tipps of Tallahassee, Fla., passed away on August 2, 2007. He was born on June 24, 1954 in Alice, Texas, to D. C. (Curly) and Helen Tipps and grew up and attended schools in Alice.
Kenny moved to Tallahassee 19 years ago to join the staff of a Christian boys home. He later owned a construction business and in 2002, he obtained his mortgage broker's license and was self-employed until the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by two nephews, Jason Lamar Bowden and Preston Wayne Tipps.
Kenny is survived by family who loved him dearly; his brothers, Jim (Susie) Tipps of Orange Grove, Texas, and Steven (Laurie) Tipps of Sandia, Texas; sisters, Judy (Steve) Costley and Carole (Lamar) Bowden, both of Alice, Texas, and his many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all his family and his many friends.
A memorial service will be held at Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel in Alice, Texas, at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2007.
