MATHIS, Texas – David Lopez Alvarez, 71, died Thursday, September 25, 2008, at his residence after an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Mathis, Texas, he was a retired carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Zapata Alvarez of Mathis; two daughters, Susie (Rolando Rodriguez) Alvarez, and Miros Arizola, both of Mathis; one son, Jorge-Luis (Star Ramirez) Alvarez of Beeville; several brothers and sisters, Juanita Montez of Leveland, Texas, Elena Villarreal and Minerva Nieto, both of Mathis and Jose Garcia Jr., of Livingston, Texas; two grandsons, two granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m., Sunday, September 28, 2008, at Walker-Mora Funeral Home Chapel in Alice. Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, September 29, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mathis. Burial will follow at Descanso Eterno Cemetery in Mathis.
