Mancera

PREMONT, Texas - Michelle Andrea Mancera, 15, passed away at a Lubbock, Texas, hospital on January 3, 2008. She was a student in the tenth grade at Plainview High School. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Bonificio and Martina Mancera.

Survivors include her grandparents, Joel and Gloria Morales of Premont, Texas; her parents, Victor and Sylvia Mancera of Premont; and three brothers, Peter Salas, Mathew Mancera and Julian Mancera, all of Premont.

A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Alaniz Funeral Home of Falfurrias.

A funeral chapel service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2008 at Alaniz Funeral Home in Falfurrias, with burial following in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Sanchez

ALICE, Texas - Dimas Sanchez, 79, of San Antonio, Texas, and formerly of Alice, Texas, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rafael and Guadalupe Sanchez; a brother, Rafael Sanchez Jr.; a sister, Hilda Guerrero; a nephew and the mother of his children.

Survivors include three daughters, Diana (Robert) Sheriff of Chester, N.J., Ida (Antonio) Trevino of San Antonio, Texas, and Martina (Robert) Muir of New Bern, N.C.; two brothers, Guadalupe (Tila) Sanchez of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Manuel (Lilly) Sanchez of La Mesa, Texas; one sister, Isaura Garcia of Alice, Texas; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Chapel A, Ruben M. Garcia and Sons Funeral Services, 120 E. Front Street. A chapel service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2007 with Pastor Domingo Vela officiating at Chapel A, Ruben M. Garcia and Sons Funeral Services with burial following at New Collins Cemetery.

Serna

ALICE, Texas - Ismael G. "Smiley" Serna, 72, a long time resident of Alice, Texas, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2008 in a Corpus Christi hospital after a short illness. He was formerly employed with Yates Ford as a used car sales manager for more than 50 years and recently retired from Alice Autoplex. He enjoyed traveling with his family and visited numerous countries, with Hawaii being his favorite place to relax. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Serna; and by his parents, Leopoldo and Elida Serna.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Evangelina Serna of Alice, Texas; his children, Rolando "Ronnie" Serna of Alice, Texas, and Albesa "Bessie" Benavides of Corpus Christi, Texas; his brother Ruben (Yolanda) Serna of San Diego, Texas; a grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas, with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. that evening.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Francis De Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas, on Thursday, January 10, 2008. Burial will follow at the San Diego Cemetery II in San Diego, Texas.

Torrez

SAN DIEGO, Texas - Orlando "Landy" Torrez, 45, a former resident of San Diego, Texas, died Monday, January 7, 2008 at his residence after a short courageous battle with cancer. He was currently residing in the Dallas area for the last 18 years.

He was employed as a master operator for Gerbau Ameristeel for more than 18 years.

He enjoyed watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns, and restoring old vehicles, fishing and barbequing with his friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Toni Wyant of Maypearl, Texas; two sons, Brandon L. Torres of Alice, Texas, and Aaron M. Torres of Midlothian, Texas; and Frank C. Perez of Midlothian, Texas, whom he raised as a son; two stepchildren, Toby and Tori Wyant of Maypearl, Texas; his parents, Santiago "Jimmy" and Zulema P. Torres of San Diego, Texas; maternal grandmother, Ninfa R. Perez of San Diego, Texas; a sister, JoAnn (Amando Jr.) Cadena of Corpus Christi, Texas; three brothers, Lionel (Rachel) Torres of Dallas, Texas, Roel "Roy" Torres and David L. (Criselda) Torres, both of San Diego, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening.
