Chapa

BENAVIDES, Texas - Celia Chapa, 79, a lifelong resident of Benavides, Texas, passed away Friday, August 17, 2007 at the Alice hospital after a long illness. She was a member of Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hector Chapa; her sister, Maria Estella Canales; and two brothers-in-law.

She leaves to cherish her memories her sons, Hector Mario “Echo” Chapa and Fidencio O. (Cynthia) Chapa, both of Benavides, Texas; her sisters, Idolina Galvan of Benavides, Texas, and Lucila (Roel) Sendejar of Corpus Christi, Texas; five sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law and her three grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 3 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2007 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. Vigil for the Deceased was observed with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2007 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas. Burial followed at the Benavides Cemetery.

Escamilla

ALICE, Texas - Mercedes F. Escamilla, 71, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2007 in a Corpus Christi hospital after a long illness. She was born September 24, 1935 in Runge, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Agapita Flores Escamilla; and a brother, Fidencio F. Escamilla.

Survivors include a brother, Reynaldo F. (Kena) Escamilla, of Alice, Texas; a sister-in-law, Linda Escamilla, of Alice, Texas; two uncles, Refugio Escamilla of California and Carlos Escamilla of Corpus Christi, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Monday, August 20, 2007 at Walker-Mora Funeral Home Chapel in Alice, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Alice with burial to follow at New Collins Cemetery-Alice, Texas.

PREMONT, Texas - Romana Rodriguez, 95, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2007 at a Corpus Christi hospital. She was born on February 29, 1912 to Cristobo Rodriguez and Dominga Robles Rodriguez in Concepcion, Texas. She was a housewife. She was preceded in death by two sons and two daughters,

Survivors include three daughters, Anita Sanchez of Premont, Texas, Maria Luisa Gutierrez of Falfurrias, Texas, and Lucinda Cardones of Alice, Texas; two brothers, Guadalupe Rodriguez of Benavides, Texas, and Julian Rodriguez of Alice, Texas; three sisters, Jesusa Castillo of Alice, Texas, Lucinda Sendejo of San Diego, Texas a nd Genoveva Garza of Freer, Texas; 22 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2007 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias. Funeral Service was held at 10 a.m. Monday August 20, 2007 at the Funeraria Del Angel Howard Williams in Falfurrias. Interment followed at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Falfurrias.
