On Tuesday, January 10, 2017, Leonel R. Ibanez passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the age of 75. He was born October 20, 1941 in San Diego, Texas to Alberto Ibanez and Genoveva Ramos Ibanez. 

He was a long life Alice resident, a husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force and a builder who built numerous homes and businesses throughout South Texas. He was a strong man that dedicated his life to helping anyone who was in need. He always found the biggest apples and oranges in Texas and brought them to his grandchildren along with snacks. Everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate Leo's life with a favorite memory and a drink.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Alberto and Genoveva Ibanez; wife, Ruby J. “Lupe” Ibanez; great granddaughter, Angel Nevaeh Acosta; brothers, Alberto Ibanez Jr. and Alfonso Ibanez.

Leo is survived by his sons, Amador (Elda) Acosta of Alice, Texas, Gustavo (Debra) Acosta of Arlington, Texas, Adrian (Lilia) Ibanez of El Paso, Texas and Sergio (Lorissa) Ibanez of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter, Lorena (Robert) Velasquez of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Trudy (Adolfo) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Gracie Bernal of Alice, Texas, Rosita (Jesse) Curiel of Corpus Christi, Texas, Genie (Alfredo) Cardenas of Corpus Christi, Texas, Juanita (Poncho) Hernandez of Benavides, Texas and Priscilla (G.R.) Chapa of Corpus Christi, Texas; sister-in-law, Angelita Ibanez of Alice, Texas;. Other survivors include 16 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will begin on Friday, January 13, 2017, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Rosas Funeral Home Chapel in Alice, Texas with a Rosary being recited at 7 pm that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the New Collins Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Alice United Veteran’s Burial Association.
