Parents are invited to a technology meeting today at Salazar Elementary school to preview the View Students Information System (VSI), which will be in use at the elementary level for the first time this year.
Alice High School has been using the VSI system for several years, which allows parents to view their student's grades and attendance on line.
Marina Garza said the event will instruct parents on how to work on VSI, how to navigate the site, and give them a password to access the site from home.
The event will also cover the campus' accelerated reading program to give the parents a feel of what the children do on a week-to-week basis.
"The VSI helps parents to monitor their child's grades and see which assignments they have turned in," Garza said. There will be three opportunities today to meet at the campus computer lab.
The first shift begins at noon, but there are two other evening sections for Salazar parents, one at 5:30 p.m. and one at 6:30 p.m.
This is the eighth parent-related event the school has committed to this year, and Garza said one of their priorities is to increase parent and student contact at Salazar.
"We're working hard, as always, to reach that goal," Garza said.
