A man was shot on the left side of his face Saturday night in the 2000 block of South Cameron Street.
The victim identified as Gilbert J. Estrada, was released from the hospital and suffered minor injuries to his face after the bullet penetrated the skin, but not his skull, police said.
According to police, Estrada and his wife drove up to the Guadalupe Hacienda complex and the suspect, Rolando Garza, apparently approached Estrada.
The two were talking and were walking back to Estrada's apartment when Garza "raised the handgun firing it once," a police report said.
Garza fled the scene when police arrived and could not be found.
A witness heard the shots and when that individual went outside, he noticed Estrada walking to the apartment with blood running down his face.
Estrada was transported to a local hospital and was released the same day, police said.
About 24 hours later, police were called out to a disturbance in the 100 block of Terrell St. A woman who answered the door said she was arguing with her son, identified as Garza, but police did not locate him at that time.
Then about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, police were called out again for another disturbance to the same residence on Terrell Street. Garza's mother opened the door and this time her son was sitting on the couch, police reports said.
According to the police report, Garza confessed to shooting Estrada the night before.
Garza was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and taken to the Jim Wells County jail.
Garza remains in jail on a $1,000 bond, jail officials confirmed this morning.
