CBC course begins Oct. 1

Coastal Bend College Continuing Education announces the beginning of its professional truck driving program to begin in October. The four-week, 200-hour course will be held at Coastal Bend College - Alice Campus. Larry Hobgood, president of International Schools, Professional Driver Training, entered into an agreement with CBC to provide the training. In addition to classroom learning, students gain experience through driving simulators and hands-on driving.

Training covers Texas A and B requirements, pre- and post-trip inspections, general knowledge, driving combination vehicles, air brakes and endorsements for double and triples and tankers as well as protocols for carrying hazardous materials.

Driving and simulator training covers straight backing, 45 degree backing, parallel parking, air brakes testing, and defensive driving according to the National Safety Council standards for trucks.

The course will tentatively start on Oct. 1 and will be held Mondays through Fridays, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Alice at 704 Coyote Trail. Applicants should call the Continuing Education Office at 361-354 COED for applications and further information.
