SAN DIEGO — A suspected illegal immigrant was struck and killed by a train early Wednesday morning in Duval County, officials said.
The victim is reportedly an adult man, but his identity and nationality had not been determined by investigators Wednesday afternoon.
According to Duval County Sheriff's Department reports, the accident happened four miles south of the City of San Diego, in Duval County. Shortly before 3 a.m., the conductor of a train traveling through the county reported that he had struck an individual who was on the tracks.
Deputies with the Duval County Sheriff's Department and troopers with the Department of Public Safety responded to the accident, which remained under investigation late Wednesday evening.
The victim, who is believed to have been an illegal immigrant, was reportedly killed on impact.
Officials with the Duval County Sheriff's Department said they were in contact with the Mexican Consulate and were attempting to determine the man's identity.
No other individuals were located in the area at the time of the accident.
