Five indicted on charges from assault to drugs

Two men were recently indicted by a Jim Wells County grand jury for aggravated assault, according to records just released by the district clerk's office of the 79th District Court.

In the first case, Jerry James Cavazos was indicted for aggravated assault in connection with a Dec. 22, 2006 incident in which he allegedly stabbed another man with a piece of glass or an unknown object.

In the second case, Robert Perez was indicted for aggravated assault in connection with a May 9 incident in which he allegedly used a firearm to threaten a woman.

Other indictments issued by the grand jury included the following:

Lee Trevino was indicted on one count of forgery and another count of credit card abuse in connection with an April 25 incident in which he allegedly forged some credit card documents. Shannon Leal was indicted for possession of marijuana in connection with a March 20 incident in which he was allegedly found to be in possession of more than 50 pounds of marijuana. Israel Chapa Canales was indicted for possession of a controlled substance in connection with an Oct. 20, 2006 incident in which he allegedly was found to be in possession of more than one gram of cocaine.
