San Diego Rotary Club recently announced two Rotary Students of the Month from San Diego High School, Chelsea Balli and Joseph Martinez.
Chelsea is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Javier Balli. She is ranked second in her graduating class with a GPA of 4.11. She also attends Coastal Bend College for dual credit. Chelsea will graduate with the Distinguished Achievement Program. She is a class officer.
She has been a Vaquero cheerleader for four years. She is a member of marching, symphonic, jazz, and mariachi band. She has been a member of the SDHS Choir, NHS, Varsity golf, UIL and FFA.
Martinez is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Martinez. He ranks fifth in his graduating class with a 3.87 GPA. He has held the office of Class President his junior and senior years.
He is member of the Vaquero Basketball team; he was named District Offensive MVP and 1st Team All District last year. He was also named to the TABC All-Region Team and named All-State in Texas Basketball Magazine. Joseph participates in Vaquero track and field. He was a member of last year's One Act Play cast which made Region Alternate. Joseph is also a member of NHS. He plans to pursue a degree in Athletic Training at UT Austin.
On Nov. 6, at a weekly Rotary meeting, the honorees were treated to a luncheon and presented with an award for their outstanding achievements at San Diego High School. The Student of the Month Program is part of the Rotary's continuing efforts to recognize high school students who are excelling in academics, athletics, extra-curricular activities, and community service.
