LAREDO, Texas–Laredo SectorBorder Patrol Agents made two significant marijuana seizures today.
Agents from the Cotulla station made the first seizure when they stopped a pickup truck near mile marker 69 on Interstate Highway 35 to conduct an immigration inspection of the driver.
As the Agents talked to the driver they detected a strong smell of marijuana coming from inside the cab of the truck.
They searched the truck and found several cellophane-wrapped bundles behind the seat.
They also found similar bundles in two toolboxes that were mounted in the bed of the truck. The Agents seized a total of 31 bundles of marijuana weighing 795 pounds.
The drugs were worth approximately $636,000. The driver, vehicle and marijuana were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The second seizure occurred when Agents patrolling along Mines Road west of Laredo became suspicious of a blue Ford van that made several trips up and down the road in a short period of time. Agents drove their marked unit behind the van in an attempt to read the license plate.
When the driver saw the unit behind him, he immediately pulled over and stopped.
The Agents approached the vehicle and performed an immigration inspection on the driver. In the course of conducting the inspection, the Agents noticed some large feed sacks in the back of the van.
They searched the sacks and found 12 large cellophane-wrapped bundles. The bundles contained marijuana with a total weight of 487.4 pounds and an approximate street value of $389,920.
The driver, the van and the marijuana were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration
