Cervantes

BENAVIDES, Texas - Elda O. Cervantes, 83, a lifelong resident of Benavides, Texas, died Monday, July 30, 2007 in a San Diego nursing home after a long illness. She was owner and operator of Elda's Beauty Shop in Benavides for more than 15 years. She enjoyed listening to music and dancing with her husband, Mauricio. She was preceded in death by her son, George L. Cervantes on May 5, 1994.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Mauricio Cervantes of Benavides, Texas; her son, Mark Cervantes of San Antonio, Texas; her two daughters, Leticia Cervantes and Brenda (Joey) Garcia, both of Benavides, Texas; her daughter-in-law, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. Vigil for the Deceased was observed, with a Rosary recited that evening. Funeral Mass wase celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas, with Father Paul as Celebrant. Burial followed at the Benavides Cemetery in Benavides, Texas.

Chavera

RAMIREZ, Texas - Herminia G. "Minnie" Chavera, 86, a lifelong resident of Ramirez, Texas, died Friday, August 3, 2007 in an Alice hospital after a long illness. She enjoyed gardening, loved a variety of flowers, trees and green grass. She also enjoyed cooking for any occasion, her specialty was carne guisada, beans, rice and potato salad, and for Christmas holidays she enjoyed making tamales, empanadas, cookies and pan de polvo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Domingo Chavera, her parents, and brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her four children, Diana (Liborio) Saenz of Benavides, Texas, Hector Mario (Rosa) Chavera of Alice, Texas, Jorge Chavera and Leticia (Raul) Rios, both of Ramirez, Texas; seven grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, her caretaker, her goddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Monday, August 6, 2007 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at St. Rosa De Lima Catholic Church with Father Paul as celebrant. Burial followed at the Benavides Cemetery in Benavides, Texas.

Guajardo

FREER - Fabianita G. Guajardo, 81, of Freer, passed away August 5, 2007 in an Alice hospital after a long illness. She was born August 11, 1925 in Chilpitin Ranch near San Diego, Texas, to Jose and Maria Gonzaelz.

Fabianita was the oldest of 13 children. She was well-known throughout the community of Freer as a child care provider (babysitter) and as a creative seamstress. She mad many of the Freer cheerleader uniforms and always had a scrap of blue and gold fabric handy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Maria Gonzalez; her husband, Abel R. Guajardo; one son, Jesse Guajardo; one granddaughter, Debra Ray Saenz; two sisters, Delia Cantu and Elda Gonzalez; three brothers, Amado, Erineo and Ernesto Gonzalez; and two brothers-in-law, Dudley Broussard and Juan Flores.

She leaves to cherish her memories her three sons, Abel M. (Clara) Guajardo of Freer; Reymundo (Nita) Guajardo of Premont and Tommy Guajardo of Freer; three daughters, Eloisa (Jim) Ray of Freer, Elda (Dick) Miller of Triangle, Va., and Elva (Rufino) Saenz of McAllen; two brothers, Jose R. (Herminia) Gonzalez of California and Eloy Gonzalez of Corpus Christi; three sisters-in-law, Linda, Gloria and Omedi Gonzalez, all of Freer; five sisters, Elma (Domingo) Marquez of Freer, Sofia Broussard of Lake Charles, La., Corina Flores of Freer, Dalia (Ray) Pantalion of Corpus Christi and Lily (Joe) Adami of Freer; 22 grandchildren, Connie (Ronnie) Garza, J.T. (Christy) Ray, Chris (Nicole) Miller, Abigail (David) Gutierrez, Andrey Guajardo, Abel Joel Guajardo, Caylyn Guajardo, Rene (Gina) Guajardo, Steven (Samantha) Guajardo, Nicholas Guajardo, Stephen (Marla) Garcia, Stephanie (Lando) Arevalo, Celina Guajardo, Terri Guajardo, T.J. Guajardo, Daniel Guajardo, Jessel Guajardo, Leo Jess Guajardo, David Guajardo, Matthew B. Saenz, Laura Fabianita Saenz and Michael Anthony Saenz; 18 great-grandchildren who will miss their incredible "wella" and numerous neices and nephews.

Visitation was Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Chapel in Freer with Rosary recited. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church and burial followed at Hahl Memorial Park Cemetery in Freer.

Hinojosa

BENAVIDES - Isabel G. "Chavela" Hinojosa, 93, a lifetime resident of Benavides, Texas, passed away Friday, August 3, 2007 in a Corpus Christi nursing home after a short illness. She was the last of 14 siblings. She retired as a cafeteria worker for Benavides I.S.D. after 35 years of employment. She was well known for baking pan de polvo and wedding cakes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Juvencio Hinojosa, and a grandson.

She leaves to cherish her memories her sons, Jose Luis (Rebecca) Hinojosa of Falfurrias, Texas, and Juan Rafael (Mary) Hinojosa of Corpus Christi, Texas; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2007 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. Vigil observance of the deceased and a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, August 6, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas with Father Paul as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Benavides Cemetery
