Meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. today

According to tonight's meeting agenda, the Alice City Council will once again consider appointing a new city manager.
The meeting, which is open to the public, begins at 6:30 p.m.
In closed session, the council is scheduled to interview city manager applicants and discuss the appointment of a new city manager.
The council has held interviews with five applicants.
They are Andy Joslin, current interim Ruben Maldonado, Florencio Sauceda, Oscar E. Ramirez and Albert Uresti. A sixth candidate, Rafael Castillo Jr., may also be interviewed, officials have said.
In other action tonight, the council will:
Hear a presentation from Scott Evans regarding future EMS helicopter services in South Texas. Hear presentation from Enrique Guzman regarding possible commercial and residential development in the area of the U.S. Highway 281 Bypass, and consider and act upon extension, upgrade and/or installation of utilities. Hear presentation from Insurance Representative, James Villarreal, regarding the status of City of Alice Humana Health Insurance premiums versus claims. Consider and act upon authorizing Maldonado to temporarily adjust the public works department's operations division "Salary Equity Plans" until a comprehensive study of salaries and wages is completed. Discuss, consider and act upon tape recording of executive sessions. Hear status report concerning departmental pending and prospective projects and general operations.
