The Alice Police and Fire Departments responded to two calls over the weekend that are being investigated as possible cases of arson.
According to Alice Police Department reports, the police and fire departments were called to a home in the 700 block of West First Street shortly after 12:30 p.m. Sunday in reference to a fire.
Upon arrival, officials discovered a shed on fire behind the home. The fire was extinguished without incident.
According to police department reports, a woman in the home told investigators the fire had been intentionally set by her 8-year-old son. The boy reportedly admitted to intentionally setting the fire with some paper and a lighter.
After taking the statements, the investigators returned the boy to the custody of his mother.
Lt. Luis Barrera, with the Alice Police Department, said Monday crimes committed by juveniles under the age of 10 are not prosecutable.
In a separate incident, officers and fire fighters were called to a house fire in the 900 block of Chandler Street shortly after midnight Saturday.
Upon arrival, officers discovered thick smoke and flames inside the home, which was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
The fire was extinguished, but is under investigation by the Alice Fire Marshal as a possible case of arson.
