Norman Thomas Elementary was recently awarded Gold Performance Acknowledgment by TEA.
To be considered for the GPA, schools and districts must have a Texas Accountability Rating of Academically Acceptable or higher and must meet the state's acknowledgement criteria on one or more of the indicators.
Acknowledgment at Norman Thomas Elementary was received in reading, math and science. Freer High School also received acknowledgment in reading and recommended high school plan.
School districts and their campuses work hard to maintain exceptional, well-rounded instructional programs while faced with the implementation of new statewide education reforms, says principal Linda Garza.
"The gold Performance Acknowledgment System is one way that Tea can recognize our public schools for the strides they are making in numerous areas critical to the academic success of our student," she said.
"I'm proud of our teachers and we are honored to have received this award."
