The prosecution began presenting its case Tuesday in the jury trial of Manuel Soliz, an Alice man charged with indecency with a child.

A Jim Wells County grand jury indicted Soliz on the charge of indecency with a child in September 2006, in connection with a June 24, 2006 incident in which he allegedly had inappropriate sexual conduct with a 12-year-old girl.

Prosecutor Lee Persohn gave an opening statement to the jury of 10 women and two men Tuesday afternoon, and outlined the case against Soliz.

Persohn's first witness was Carol McLaughlin, a sexual assault nurse examiner with Driscoll Children's Hospital.

McLaughlin, who examined the victim in June 2006, testified about the procedures involved in an examination Tuesday. Testimony from McLaughlin was expected to continue this morning.

Soliz is represented by attorney Juan Martinez Gonzalez. Visiting District Judge Ricardo H. Garcia is presiding over the trial.
