Four Freer High School students were recipients of the Athlete of the Month Awards, which were presented by president Norman Jenkins on behalf of the Rotary Club last Wednesday during the noon meeting.

Each student was recommended by the coaching staff to receive the recognition due to their outstanding athletic achievements during the 2007-2008 school year.

Honored were seniors Christy Acevedo and Clarissa Salazar and juniors Jake Acker and Fabian Eeds.

Acevedo was co-captain of the Co-District Champion/Area qualifying varsity volleyball team.

She was selected First Team All-District, Academic All-District and Academic All-State. In basketball, she was named Second Team All-District and Academic All-District along with other tourney awards. She was also a participant in varsity track advancing to regionals in high jump and is a high school cheerleader.

Salazar served as a co-captain of the Co-District Champion/Area Qualifying Varsity Volleyball Team. Among other honors, she was selected Second Team All-District, Academic All-District, and Academic All-State.

Acker was a member of the varsity football, basketball, baseball, golf and track teams.

He also received first Team All-District and Academic All-State in basketball and advanced to the regional golf meet in golf. In track, he advanced to the regional meet in high jump, 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and the mile relay. He was also named District Champion in the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and mile relay.

Eeds was a member of the varsity football, basketball, baseball and track teams. Other credits include being named District Defensive MVP and First Team All-District linebacker in football, leading in tackles for two consecutive years.

He is a regional qualifier in the 400 meter relay, mile relay and 800 meter relay in track. His 800 meter relay and mile relay teams were also named district champions.
