Three people were indicted recently by a Duval County Grand Jury in connection with a burglary and arson that occurred in the City of San Diego late last year.
Rolando Vidal, Armando Ruiz and Belinda Marie Garcia were all indicted on charges of burglary of a habitation in connection with the Dec. 3, 2007 burglary of a home in the 600 block of South Dr. E.E. Dunlap Blvd. in San Diego.
Along with those charges, Vidal was also indicted for arson in connection with the incident. According to court documents, Vidal allegedly used a can of gasoline to set curtains on fire in the home.
San Diego Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene shortly after 4 a.m. the day of the fire, and spent several hours getting the fire under control and protecting adjacent houses.
Once the fire was extinguished, investigators reportedly discovered that several items, including a television, a computer and an air conditioning unit had been removed from the house prior to the fire.
The owner of the home was out of town when the fire occurred.
A state fire marshal later ruled that the fire was an arson, and investigators said they believed it was intentionally set to cover up the burglary.
In addition to the charges related to that incident, Vidal was also indicted on nine separate charges for burglaries that occurred on Aug. 1, 2006; May 2, 2007; May 7, 2007; July 10, 2007; Dec. 16, 2007; Dec. 17, 2007; Nov. 13, 2007; Nov. 23, 2007; and Nov. 26, 2007.
Ruiz was also indicted on additional charges for burglaries that occurred on Aug. 1, 2006; Nov. 13, 2007; and Nov. 23, 2007.
Other indictments issued by the grand jury include the following:
• John Michael Lazo was indicted for burglary of a building in connection with a Dec. 17, 2007 incident in which he allegedly broke into a building to commit theft.
• John Edward Garcia was indicted for burglary of a building in connection with a Dec. 17, 2007 incident in which he allegedly broke into a building to commit theft.
• Joel Arnold Reyna was indicted on two counts of injury to child in connection with an Oct. 12, 2007 incident in which he allegedly struck two boys with a car.
• Joseph Michael Alaniz was indicted on one count of assault and one count of attempting to take a weapon from a peace officer in connection with a Jan. 5, 2007 incident in which he allegedly assaulted a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper who was attempting to arrest him.
According to court documents, Alaniz allegedly wrestled trooper Carlos Wilson to the ground and attempted to take his nightstick from him.
