188 bundles found hidden in shipment of limes

FALFURRIAS, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents intercepted nearly one ton of marijuana at the Falfurrias Border Patrol checkpoint on Sunday with an estimated value more than $1.2 million.

A search of the tractor-trailer revealed 188 bundles of marijuana weighing 1,508 pounds, worth $1,206,400. The pot was concealed in a load of limes.

The driver, a resident of Edinburg, Texas, was arrested.

The seizure occurred when agents assigned to the Falfurrias Border Patrol checkpoint observed a tractor-trailer enter the primary inspection area.

While the primary agent performed an immigration check on the driver, a CBP Border Patrol canine team conducted a non-intrusive, canine inspection around the trailer.

The canine alerted to the back of the trailer area and the driver was directed to the secondary inspection area.

The driver, vehicle and marijuana were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation, officials said.
