Villanueva to resume top spot with organization

The Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Fame announced that CEO and president of the board Albert T. Martinez stepped down during a special meeting of directors recently.

"After much consideration and discussions, I regret to inform you that I feel I must step down as CEO for this wonderful organization. Due to an enormous demand of my time from my personal family business, I no longer feel that I can continue to devote as much time as needed in this very high profile position," Martinez told the board through a telephone conference from Odessa. "I would like to thank everyone who has supported me during these past four months as CEO."

The board immediately thanked Martinez for his contributions and votes to accept his resignation as CEO, while voting to allow him to stay on as a member of the board of director, officials said.

Former president and CEO Javier JV Villanueva, who was present for the emergency meeting, was asked by the board members if he could resume his position that he had held for eight years.

Villanueva agreed and a motion was made to name Villanueva as president and CEO for the Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Fame effective immediately.

Villanueva thanked the board for the vote of confidence and took over the meeting.

"I look forward to forging forward with the goals set in our mission statement," he said. "I would like to thank Mr. Martinez for all his efforts and contributions. We now must get back to work and prepare for the months ahead of us. I feel that the past few months in retirement have given me the opportunity to refocus and I am very anxious to get back to work."
