The Street Rods of Alice organization is sponsoring its 12th Annual Hub City Rod Run this weekend, which is expected to bring pre-1989 custom cars to the city from all over the state.

The event, which is open to the public, will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Jim Wells County Fairgrounds.

Felix Ramirez, president of the Street Rods of Alice, said the event is expected to bring in hundreds of entries from across the state.

"A lot of people have been calling from out of town, more than usual," Ramirez said. "We've gotten calls from Houston, Del Rio, San Antonio and the Valley."

Vehicles will be judged in 14 separate categories, with awards going to the top two cars in each category in most cases.

In addition to the custom vehicles, vendors and games will be available for people of all ages.

Ramirez said the show will be a great time for the whole family.

"It's a family-oriented show. They can bring their family over and I'm sure they will have a very nice time out there," Ramirez said. "All the participants are very friendly. They're willing to talk about their vehicles, and they're willing to give ideas to anyone who is interested in getting into this kind of hobby."

Pre-registration to enter a vehicle in the event is $25, or registration may be made at the door for $30.

General admission for the public is $2 for adults and free for children under 12 years of age.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will be used to fund charity events hosted by the Street Rods of Alice, including scholarships, the annual Thanksgiving basket donation and the annual Christmas bicycle donation.
