A 68-year-old Freer woman was found dead inside a mobile home located in the 300 block of Richard Cruz Street Friday morning after Freer Volunteer firefighters forced entry into the burning residence, according to police reports.

Records show the fire was reported at 10:23 a.m.

Reports say the body of Ester Birsner was found by officials inside the home, lying on the kitchen floor, which is believed to be where the fired originated, said Freer Police Chief John Spillers.

"She was home alone and it appears she had been cooking something on the stove," he said."She seems to have died from smoke inhalation; there were no visible burn marks."

An autopsy has been ordered by Justice of the Peace Benny Garza, officials said. An investigation will be conducted Monday by the State Fire Marshal, officials said.
