A one-vehicle accident occurred last Friday morning about six miles south of Freer, police reports show.

While driving northbound toward Freer on Highway 16 in a 1999 Ford Explorer, Gerald Sanchez of Victoria began weaving and lost control of the automobile at about 10:20 a.m., records say.

Sanchez veered to the left side of the median then veered right, rolling four times before coming to a rest off of the shoulder of the road, said State DPS Trooper Michael Garza.

The driver was believed to have fallen asleep, causing the accident, he said.

Personal belongings from inside the vehicle were scattered along the shoulder of the highway after rolling multiple times, reports say.

Sanchez was transported by ambulance to CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital in Alice for treatment of undetermined injuries, reports say.

Responding to the scene were Freer EMS, Freer Police and Duval County Sheriff's Department officials.
