The San Diego Volunteer Fire Department was called to a vehicle fire on Highway 44 two miles west of San Diego shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday. Two San Diego men, ages 30 and 59, said they were in the 2007 Dodge Caliber heading east on Highway 44 when the check engine light came on and they noticed a smell of smoke.
