A San Diego woman was reportedly injured Wednesday afternoon when the truck she was driving was struck by an 18-wheeler at the intersection of Highway 281 and Highway 44, just west of Alice.
According to Department of Public Safety reports, the accident occurred at the intersection shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Reports indicate the driver of an 18-wheeler attempted to make a right turn from the south bound lane of Highway 281 into the west bound lane of Highway 44, when he struck a tan Isuzu i280 pickup truck traveling west bound on Highway 44.
The impact peeled back the right side of the cab of the pickup truck, and spun the truck 180 degrees, before it came to a rest facing east in the west bound lane.
The driver of the truck, a woman from San Diego, was transported to CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice with non-life threatening injuries, officials said. No other injuries were reported in the accident.
The drive of the 18-wheeler, a 53-year old Alice man, was cited for failing to yield the right away at the intersection.
Both west bound lanes of Highway 44 were closed for more than an hour, and traffic on Highway 44 was backed up in all four lanes while the accident was cleared.
