The Alice City Council is scheduled to have a special called meeting this evening to discuss and consider authorizing a severance package for Assistant City Manager Sara Wilson.
Tonight's meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Alice City Council Chambers of Alice City Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
Wilson resigned July 26 after declining to accept a reassignment to work as a code enforcement officer with the Community Services Department, with a $25,000 per year reduction in salary, mandated by City Manager Albert Uresti.
In signing the resignation letter, which was written by Uresti and City Attorney Joe Torres III, Wilson agreed to resign effective immediately and to accept a 90-day severance package, with the understanding she would not seek any legal action against the city.
The Alice City Council is scheduled to discuss and consider authorizing the payment of that severance package at tonight's meeting.
In the resignation letter, Uresti said he was reassigning Wilson because he did not believe she had the experience necessary for the assistant city manager position, and because he was developing his "own management team."
Wilson had held the position of assistant city manager since November 2006.
In other business, the city council may meet in closed, executive session to discuss the appointment of a new airport manager for the Alice Municipal Airport. Any action on the item would take place in open session.
The airport manager position has been open since February, when former Airport Manager Bill McCumber announced his resignation.
Other items on the agenda for tonight's meeting include the following:
Consider and act upon authorizing expenditure of $12,190 for the purchase and installation of flow meter devices at the Homer E. Dean Jr. Water Treatment Plant as part of a TCEQ inspection and corrective action. Review and discussion of the 2006-2007 Fiscal Year Revised City Budget and the 2007-2008 Fiscal Year Proposed City Budget, which may include proposed new fees and/or fee changes for the City of Alice.
