A damaged fiber optic line south of Corpus Christi was damaged twice in two days this week, leading to outages in phone and Internet service in Alice and Kingsville.
Dan Feldstein, a spokesman for AT&T, said the first outage occurred just before noon on Wednesday, when a contractor for a local utility company accidentally damaged a fiber optic cable just southwest of Corpus Christi, in Nueces County.
"There was a mistake involved in locating the cable," Feldstein said. "We are working very hard to identify the issue and make sure it never happens again."
The line was repaired by 6 p.m. Wednesday and service was restored, but the same line was accidentally cut a second time around 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Repairs to the second damage were completed around noon Thursday, with full service restored to Alice and Kingsville.
Feldstein said the company was working to ensure a third outage does not occur.
"It should be back up permanently," Feldstein said. "We just have to make sure that it never happens again."
