A Duval County grand jury returned an indictment charging a San Diego man with animal cruelty, after an incident earlier this year in which the man was allegedly forcing two pit bulls to fight.

Rodolfo Estringel, 21, was indicted for cruelty to animals in connection with a March 27 incident in which he allegedly caused two dogs to fight.

According to San Diego Police Department reports, the city's animal control officer was dispatched to the 400 block of West Collins Street shortly after 7 p.m. on March 28 in reference to dogs fighting. Police officers were called to the scene when it was determined that two men, identified as Estringel and Roel Ramirez, 20, were allegedly forcing two pit bulls to fight.

Both men were arrested at that time and charged with dog fighting. Those charges were later changed to cruelty to animals.

In August, Ramirez waived indictment and pleaded guilty to the state jail felony in return for a sentence of 180 days in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Arraignment is set for Estringel's case for Dec. 11.
