Entries for The Nueces County Record Star's essay contest are being accepted through Friday. The contest is open to area high school juniors and seniors who will participate in the 2008 Nueces County Junior Livestock Show in January.
The annual essay contest is held to choose a 4-H, Future Farmers of America or FCCLA club member who will be featured on the cover and inside a special section promoting the 2008 livestock show.
A $500 college scholarship, cosponsored by The Nueces County Record Star and Wells Fargo Bank N.A., and a framed copy of the special section cover will be given to the winner.
The winner must be available in mid-December to be interviewed and photographed for the feature story.
Entries may be submitted in any format and must be between 400 and 600 words. The winner will be chosen on the basis of which essay best explains the significance and importance that raising livestock and competing in the annual local livestock show has had in his or her life.
Entries must be received by 5 p.m. Friday in the newspaper's office at 104 N. Fifth St. in Robstown. They may be submitted electronically to firstname.lastname@example.org.
For more information on the contest, call Record Star managing editor Jeff Tucker at 387-4511.
