On Saturday night, Nov. 10, agents of the Central South Texas Criminal Investigation Unit arrested a Freer man on a drug charge at a residence located in the 1000 block of Harvill in Freer, police reports say.
At approximately 6:20 p.m. after conducting an intense search of the premises, three ounces of marijuana as well as a variety of drug paraphernalia were found, records show.
Arrested and charged with possession of marijuana was Esequiel Leal Jr., 26, of Freer.
"Based on the evidence seized, we believe that the residence is being utilized for the packaging and preservation of illegal controlled substances in preparation for street level distribution," said Commander Romeo Ramirez.
Ramirez also stated that Leal, whom assumed responsibility for the marijuana, has been previously adjudicated on other drug-related offenses.
The charge of possession of marijuana will be referred to the Duval County Attorney's Office for prosecution, he said.
Leal was taken to the county jail and was later released on $5,000 surety bond.
Assisting in the investigation were officers of the Duval County Sheriff's Department, the Freer Police Department and U.S. Border Patrol K-9 agents.
