Several in JWC receive funding

State Rep. Yvonne Gonzalez Toureilles assisted the Office of Rural Community Affairs (ORCA) in honoring Jim Wells County, Bee County, McMullen County, CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice and CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Beeville on Sept. 28 at the Coastal Bend Area Council of Government meeting.

ORCA awarded a total of $6,926,403 in grant funding to 23 recipients in the Coastal Bend area.

Grant recipients from District 35 are:

Jim Wells County Community Development Fund - $500,000 Jim Wells County Colonia Construction Fund - $500,000 Bee County Colonia Construction Fund - $500,000 Goliad County Sewer System Upgrades - $250,000 McMullen County Colonia Construction Fund - $500,000 CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice Capital Improvement Loan Fund - $47,054 CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Beeville Capital Improvement Loan Fund - $50,000

These grant funds will support a variety of local projects, including local infrastructure development projects, disaster relief, healthcare accessibility enhancements, medical facility improvements and healthcare professional recruitment endeavors.

"ORCA is instrumental in acquiring funding for local, rural projects. During this past session, I fought to keep ORCA as an independent agency allowing them to focus on communities like Alice and Beeville," Toureilles said.
