Sheriff Oscar Lopez presented a plaque of appreciation to former Chief Deputy Melvin Arnold for his 28 years with Jim Wells County and a total of 60 years and three months in law enforcement. Lopez also presented him with a city pin and mug from Alice police chief Daniel Bueno. The recognition was part of the Coastal Bend Peace Officers Association quarterly meeting held Thursday night in the Ben Bolt cafeteria. Arnold was presented a carved wooden boot from his son. He also received 16 awards and certificates from law enforcement throughout the region.
