A 73-year-old man escaped injuries Sunday evening after a train struck his pick-up truck on County Road 341, east of Alice, Department of Public Safety officials said.

According to Trooper Oscar Garcia, the driver of the truck, Ruben Torres, was traveling northbound on County Road 341, near County Road 342 and was struck as he tried to cross the railroad tracks Sunday at 6:15 p.m.

"He attempted to cross the tracks, but he didn't see the train," Garcia said.

The train struck the 2007 Dodge Ram Torres was driving.

Torres was not hurt, officials said.

Garcia said that crossing signs are in place, but no signal lights.

Torres was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
