Whitley named first runner-up

FREER - Thirteen-year-old Alanah Danielle Saenz was crowned 2007 Junior Miss Freer during the "Pirates of the Caribbean"-themed pageant held last Saturday night in the high school auditorium. It was sponsored by the Freer Chamber of Commerce.
Hollie Whitley was named first runner-up, Jaclyn Bigley was second runner-up and third runner-up was Rachel Maldonado.
Saenz was also named Most Photogenic and Best Talent by the judges.
Bigley was voted Miss Congeniality by fellow contestants. Chamber president Leo Martinez began the second annual event with the introduction of the evening's host, Joe David Garza.
Following the invocation given by Oma Ruth Massey, each contestant modeled western wear.
Afterward, newly named 2007 Miss Freer Royalty was announced. As Alysha Evans, 2006 Miss Freer, presented trophies to the new third runner-up Josie Pineda, second runner-up Kyrie Pacely, first runner-up Jennifer Fowler and crowned Aimee Evans as the new 2007 Miss Freer. Guests entertainers 2007 Little Miss and Mr. Freer Meghan Sharber and Enrique Maldonado performed an original monologue for the audience.
The talent portion of the contest began with contestant Raylee Elder, who performed an original monologue entitled "Jack." Jaclyn Bigley followed with a monologue entitled, "How Smart Is My Daddy?" and Hollie Whitley performed a monologue entitled, "Braces."
Afterward, Rachel Maldonado sang, "How Far?" as Alyssa Huey followed with her own original monologue, "Beauty School Dropout."
Alanah Saenz danced to "Summer Love" and Tiffany Salinas concluded with a monologue entitled, "Goldie Locks."
Special entertainment was then given by 2007 Little Mr. Freer first runner-up Andruw Espinoza who sang and played guitar to "God Bless Texas."
The 2006 Junior Miss Freer Serena Martinez followed, signing to the song, "Imagine."
Guest entertainment concluded with 2007 Little Miss Freer third runner-up Kellie Martinez, who danced to "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?"
A slide presentation was viewed afterward, which featured many highlights during last year's reign of Junior Miss Martinez.
Prior to the announcement of the award winners, she made the traditional farewell walk, thanking everyone for their continued support during her reign as the first Junior Miss Freer.
The pageant was directed by Angel Ybanez and co-directed by Denise Vasquez.
