Agenda includes item to appoint city manager

The Alice City Council is scheduled to continue interviewing candidates for the open position of city manager tonight, with the possibility that a city manager could be appointed at that meeting.

The meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today, includes an agenda item for the council to meet in closed executive session to interview candidates for the vacant city manager position, with an action item in open session to appoint the city manager.

The five finalists chosen by the council for the position were Scott L. Albert, Ruben Maldonado, Oscar E. Ramirez, Florencio Sauceda and Albert Uresti.

Candidate Sauceda was interviewed during last Monday's city council meeting, and Albert has withdrawn his name from consideration after accepting a position with another city, officials said.

Former city manager Pete Anaya resigned from the position effective Jan. 31, and Maldonado has held the position of interim city manager since Feb. 1.

The council was scheduled to interview the remaining candidates in a June 26 special meeting, but that meeting was rescheduled to tonight.

The meeting is open to the public with the exception of closed session.
