A Duval County Sheriff's Department K-9 officer led law enforcement personnel from a burglary location to the front door of the suspects' home earlier this week, resulting in two arrests and a confession to arson.

According to San Diego Police Department reports, a convenience store in the 300 block of South Dr. E.E. Dunlap Blvd. in San Diego was burglarized twice this week, on Monday and Tuesday.

On Tuesday, shortly after 3 a.m., San Diego Police Officer Richard Donahue was on patrol when he noticed a ladder leaning against the side of the convenience store. Upon investigation, he discovered that several individuals had broken into the store through the roof, leaving an empty cash tray from the register and a trail of cigarette cartons heading east away from the store.

Officer Donahue requested assistance from the Duval County Sheriff's Department, and a K-9 officer, "Devon," was brought to the scene.

Devon followed a trail from the store to the 300 block of Juanita Street, leading officers "right to the front door," of a home, Donahue said Wednesday.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the home, which was executed shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday.

A search of the home revealed unopened cigarette cartons with serial numbers matching those that were allegedly stolen from the store, along with other items taken from the store and drug paraphernalia.

Officers arrested John Garcia, 22, and Rolando Vidal, 22, at the home.

Garcia was charged with one count of burglary of a building and was transported to the Duval County Jail, where he was held on $50,000 bond.

While investigators were questioning Vidal, he reportedly confessed to taking part in a burglary and arson of a home in the 600 block of Dr. E.E. Dunlap Blvd. on Dec. 3. Vidal was charged with two counts of burglary of a building, one count of burglary of a habitation and one count of arson. He is currently being held in the Duval County Jail without bond.
