Barrera, Garcia allegedly broke into restaurant; caught stealing cheese

A man and a woman were arrested in Alice early Monday morning, after they were allegedly caught trying to steal cheese from a local restaurant. According to Alice Police Department reports, officers were called to the 800 block of South Highway 281 shortly after midnight Monday in reference to a possible burglary in progress.
Officers arrived at the address, which was a local restaurant, and discovered a woman standing next to a pickup truck outside the business. The woman, identified later as Rose Ann Garcia, 32, was detained while officers investigated a broken glass door to the restaurant.
When officers entered the building, they reportedly discovered a 33-year-old man, identified as Jesse Barrera, hiding in a room in the building.
According to police reports, Barrera and Garcia were attempting to steal cheese from the business.
A tire iron that was allegedly used to break the glass door of the business was recovered from the scene. Barrera and Garcia were arrested and charged with burglary of a building and were transported to the Jim Wells County jail.
