Camp Conner to begin June 12
If the youngsters are already bored at home this summer, Camp Conner may be just the thing to cut the boredom while entertaining their minds and hands.
Camp Conner is a summer program for children six to 12 that is sponsored by the John E. Conner Museum at Texas A and M University-Kingsville.
"Each session of Camp Conner provides children with an age-appropriate lesson on one part of Texas history," said Hal Ham, museum director. "But because each lesson is going to be fun and is paired with an associated craft, the children will learn while having a good time."
Camp Conner is divided into three age groups. Six and seven year olds meet Tuesdays and Fridays. Eight and nine year olds meet Wednesdays and 10 to 12year olds meet Thursdays. All sessions are from 9:30 a.m. to noon and are $7 per session.
The registration deadline is one day prior to the session. There will be a 15-minute snack break during each session.
Session topics and crafts are
June 12-15 - geography and painting June 19-22 - Native American life and leather pouches June 26-29 - light in Texas homes and molded and dipped candles July 10-13 - the cattle industry and butter making July 17-20 - science in Texas and science experiments July 24-27 - space and paper rockets
Registration will be at the Conner Museum at 905 W. Santa Gertrudis on the A and M-Kingsville campus. For more information, call 361-593-2810.
