LAGARTO, Texas - The annual Christmas Bazaar held by the Community Club was a huge success. There were many wreaths, afghans and wood crafts as well as baked goods and jellies. The club would like to thank their neighbors and friends for the continuing support shown by shopping at the bazaar and purchasing all these handcrafted items. Money earned by the club is used to keep the Old Lagarto School in good repair and donations are made from time to time to help other non-profit entities in their efforts.
Leading the raffle winners was Mike McDougal of Corpus Christi. He won the handmade quilt. Local rancher, Betty Lou Salyer, won the four cases of shotgun shells and Myron Carlson of Mathis had the winning ticket for the patio cooler. Winning the afghan was Linda Black of Carmel Hills and John Bedgood of Alice took the fifth drawing for the tablecloth.
Although the main function at the club's November meeting was to set up for the bazaar, several other items were discussed and perhaps the most important one would be the Christmas Party for Seniors. In the past this party has been a "bring-a-dish" dinner at the Fire House but this year the "format" and location will be changing (because the number attending has been declining). Seniors are invited to the Old Lagarto School on Dec. 6 for an Open House between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. Club members will be serving cake/pie/drinks to the guests and "goodie bags" will be distributed as in the past. So, if you are a Lagarto area Senior be sure and come to the party. And, if you know a Senior be sure and help us get the word out!
The next meeting for the Lagarto Community Club will be on Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. We will have our Christmas luncheon and gift exchange. Anyone interested in joining this group is welcome to attend.
