Three students were arrested at the Premont High School earlier this month in connection to a stabbing and assault of a 19-year-old man, police said.
According to Police Chief Florencio Hinojosa, two juveniles, a boy and a girl, and an adult identified as Eduardo Barrera, 17, were arrested at the high school Oct. 3. The two juveniles, whose names were not released, were transported to Jourdanton Detention Center in Atascosa County and Barrera was taken to the Jim Wells County jail for allegedly beating on 19-year-old Juan Jesus Ramos.
Police said the incident happened on Sept. 20 and that Ramos suffered from a punctured wound to his kidney, was hit with a hammer and kicked multiple times. Ramos was transported to CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Alice and then taken to a Corpus Christi hospital, police said.
"They were beating on him," Hinojosa said. "A by-stander helped him, who knows what would of happened if the by-stander didn't come by and help him."
The three face charges of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized activity, police said.
The three have bonds set at $35,000 each, police said.
The case has been turned over to the district attorney's office, Hinojosa said.
