Titles of Little Miss, Jr. Miss and Miss Fourth of July up for grabs

"Rockin' the USA" is the theme of Freer's first Miss Fourth of July pageant in which girls in three age groups will be vying for the titles of Little Miss Fourth of July, Junior Miss Fourth of July as well as Miss Fourth of July on Saturday, June 23 in the high school auditorium.
Little Miss Fourth of July contestants will consist of girls in second through fourth grades; Junior Miss Fourth of July contestants will consist of girls in fifth through eighth grade and girls competing for the title of Miss Fourth of July will consist of those in ninth through twelfth grade.
Entry fees are $25 each for Little Miss category, $50 each for the Junior Miss category and $75 to enter the high school category. Parents entering more than one child may receive a discount. Deadline to enter the contest is Thursday, May 31.
All paid fees will be used to purchase participant trophies, savings bonds and provide for a scholarship as well as cover costs of decorations.
Competitions during the pageant will include talent, sportswear, evening gown and interview.
During the talent portion, elementary contestants will perform a patriotic monologue or poem no longer than three minutes; junior contestants will each model a service uniform and explain why their particular service is important to the country.
High school contestants will speak on a platform of their choice. Each contestant will model red, white and blue attire during the sportswear competition.
Three judges from out of town will determine the winners. Miss Fourth of July will receive a scholarship and Junior Miss Fourth of July and Little Miss Fourth of July will each receive savings bonds. First, second and third runners-up will also be named.
Pre-sale tickets and admission at the door will be $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and under.
Preliminary information will be given by the directors of the pageant, Rosemary Arnold and Cheryl Arnold, during a meeting to be held at 5 p.m. Friday at the Freer Civic Center.
