A 74-year-old man hospitalized Oct. 5 after being hit by a motorcycle while trying to cross the road has died from his injuries.

Police said James Peterson was trying to cross Northwest Boulevard in his motorized wheelchair the morning of Oct. 5 when he was struck by a motorcycle driven by 52-year-old Ronnie Garcia.

Garcia was thrown from his motorcycle, as was Peterson from his wheelchair, which was torn in half from the impact, police said. Garcia, who was not issued a citation for the accident, was taken to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital, where he was later released.

Peterson had also been transported to Spohn Memorial Hospital and placed in intensive care, but hospital officials said Monday that Peterson succumbed to his injuries last weekend and died.
