Jury selection begins Monday morning on two cases which could be heard this week in the 79th Judicial District Court.

On Thursday, District Judge Richard Terrell outlined six cases that are ready to come up for jury selection this week. Those cases include an alleged aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge against Antonio Hernandez Jr., a charge of burglary of a building against Guillermo Rivera Nunez, an aggravated assault charge on Rolando Garza Jr.,  a driving while intoxicated charge against Miguel Aracangel Garza, a charge of engaging in organized criminal activity on Valdo Rey Gunn and a charge of possession of a controlled substance on David Flores.

Court officials said Hernandez and Nunez are at the top of the list for jury selection on Monday.

Hernandez was indicted on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly stabbing Baldemar I. Garcia III, according to the indictment.

According to a medical report on Garcia taken when he was brought into CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital on Aug. 5, 2007, after the alleged assault, Garcia was stabbed in his lumbar area on his lower back, and had a stab wound to his right temple and lacerations to his face.

Garcia told medical personnel in the hospital he had been chased three blocks and stabbed in the back and face by unknown individuals, according to the medical report.
