The Freer Chamber of Commerce Banquet will be held Monda, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Norman Thomas Elementary Cafeteria. Citizen and Junior Citizen of the year will be announced.

Five Freer High School students up for Junior Citizen of the Year

Five seniors from Freer High School have been selected as final nominees for 2008 Junior Citizen of the Year. Nominated for the honor are Keeley Guidry, daughter of George and Melissa Guidry; Audrey Reyes, daughter of Sonia Reyes and Joe M. Garza; Myra Barrera, daughter of Elvia Gonzalez; Clarissa Salazar, daughter of Robert and Alma Salazar and Christy Acevedo, daughter of Cresencio and Elda Acevedo. Of the original 10 students that were nominated by a teacher, the final five were selected based on the highest total points scored in essay, extra-curricular activities and interviews conducted by chamber members.

Nominated for 2008 Citizen of the Year are J.P. Garza, Bobby Newman, Marty Perez and the Rev. Tim Walshe. The winners of Junior Citizen of the Year and the Citizen of the Year will be announced during the Freer Chamber of Commerce Banquet on Monday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Norman Thomas Elementary cafeteria.
