Jim Wells County Pct. 6 Constable Bartolo V. Guajardo took a sizable lead during early voting, which he kept, to seal his victory in the constable run-off race against candidate Jaime R. Garza.
During the week of early voting, 509 votes were cast, with 317 votes going to Guajardo, giving him 62.28 percent of the votes.
Garza narrowed the gap on the election day totals, with 50 votes separating him and Guajardo, 172 to 222.
Guajardo kept up his lead through election day, and in the end, received 539 votes, or 59.69 percent of the 903 total votes in the run-off.
Also on the ballot, Jim Wells County residents voted overwhelmingly for Mark Thompson as the Texas Railroad Commissioner Democratic nominee over candidate Dale Henry.
Thompson received 665 of the total 973 votes cast during the runoff, receiving 68.35 percent of the votes.
Statewide, Thompson received 117,496 votes, which was 59 percent against Henry’s 81,107 votes. Thompson will run against incumbent Republican Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams in the general election this November.
