SAN DIEGO — Law enforcement officials are searching for a 31-year old Mexican national who allegedly shot and killed his common-law wife’s mother in Realitos last Wednesday night.
Bruno Valdez, Chief Deputy for the Duval County Sheriff’s Department, said a murder warrant has been issued for David Alfonso Salas, 31.
The sheriff’s department received a 9-1-1 call at 10:29 p.m. reporting shots fired in the 6000 block of Atkins Street in Realitos.
Upon arrival, a woman informed deputies that her common-law husband, Salas, had shot her 49 year old mother multiple times and then fled into a brush-covered area near the home.
The victim was identified as Linda Guerra.
Law enforcement officials used canines and helicopters to search the area, but the search was called off at 3 a.m. Thursday.
Salas is believed to be traveling in a black Jeep Wrangler. The vehicle is in poor condition, with an expired Texas license plate numbered 820-CXF, officials said.
He is described as a 6-foot tall Hispanic man, weighing 158 pounds, with black or brown hair and green eyes.
He may be carrying a handgun and is considered armed and dangerous. Valdez said Salas is a Mexican national who is known to have family in Falcon Heights and in north Texas.
The U.S. Marshals Service, the Texas Rangers and the Central South Texas Investigative Unit are assisting in the search.
Anyone with information on Salas’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Duval County Sheriff’s Department at 361-279-3351.
