Teens Ruiz, Garcia among those indicted by JWC grand jury

Two suspected gang members were indicted by a Jim Wells County grand jury recently in connection with a series of drive-by shootings that occurred in the city earlier this year.

According to information provided by the 79th Judicial District Clerk Wednesday, Anthony Blas Ruiz, 18, and Romeo Garcia, 17, were each indicted for deadly conduct in connection with an April 18 incident in which they allegedly fired a gun at a vehicle.

Alice Police Chief Danny Bueno said in April a drive-by shooting occurred on April 15 at 5:30 p.m. on St. Joseph Street.

On April 18, the drive-by shootings continued, twice in the 800 block of St. Joseph at 7:16 p.m. and 8:29 p.m. and six minutes later in the 100 block of E. Sixth Street at 8:35 p.m. Bueno said the drive-by shootings were gang-related and police questioned gang members of the Latin Kings and the Brown and Proud group.

Other indictments issued by the grand jury Sept. 14 include the following:

Thomas Edward Almeida was indicted on one count of possession of cocaine, one count of possession of marijuana and two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon in connection with a Dec. 27, 2006 incident. Steven Douglas Richardson III was indicted on one count of possession of cocaine, one count of possession of marijuana and two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon in connection with a Dec. 27, 2006 incident. Alfonso Armando Ruiz III was indicted for evading arrest with a vehicle in connection with a March 1 incident in which he allegedly attempted to evade arrest. Belinda Anguiano was indicted for possession of cocaine in connection with a May 16 incident in which he allegedly was found to be in possession of more than four grams of cocaine. Orlando Granado Gonzalez was indicted for possession of cocaine in connection with an Oct. 14, 2006 incident in which he allegedly was found to be in possession of less than one gram of cocaine. Leandro Lichtenberger Jr. was indicted for possession of cocaine in connection with a Nov. 6, 2006 incident in which he allegedly was found to be in possession of more than four grams of cocaine. Rosario Gonzalez was indicted for possession of cocaine in connection with a Dec. 27, 2006 incident in which he was allegedly found to be in possession of less than one gram of cocaine. Abelino Guzman was indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a Jan. 14, 2007 incident in which he allegedly assaulted a man with a motor vehicle. Leonard Hodges was indicted for possession of a controlled substance in connection with a March 5 incident in which he allegedly was found to be in possession of less than one gram of heroin. Maria Salazar Razo was indicted for possession of cocaine in connection with a March 17 incident in which she was allegedly found to be in possession of less than one gram of cocaine. Alejandro Gonzalez was indicted for burglary of a building in connection with an April 22 incident in which he allegedly broke into a local restaurant. Alicia Christina Rios was indicted for burglary of a habitation in connection with an April 30 incident in which she allegedly broke into a home. Ismael Martinez Jr. was indicted for possession of cocaine in connection with a May 8 incident in which he allegedly was found to be in possession of less than one gram of cocaine. Alma Linda Diaz was indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a June 4 incident in which she allegedly assaulted a woman with a box cutter. Alfredo Robledo was indicted for possession of cocaine in connection with a June 9 incident in which he allegedly was found to be in possession of less than one gram of cocaine. Michael Joseph Marruffo was indicted for arson in connection with an Aug. 4 incident in which he allegedly started a mattress fire in the city limits. Jason Clement Garces was indicted for possession of marijuana in connection with an Aug. 16 incident in which he allegedly was found to be in possession of marijuana. David Maldonado was indicted for driving while intoxicated with a child in connection with a Dec. 15, 2006 incident in which he allegedly drove a vehicle while intoxicated while three children were in the car. Alfredo Ayala was indicted for driving intoxicated with a child in connection with a July 7 incident in which he allegedly drove a vehicle while intoxicated while there was a child in the car. Hector Anguiano was indicted for possession of cocaine in connection with a May 16 incident in which he was allegedly found to be in possession of more than four grams of cocaine. Ricardo Aguilar was indicted for possession of a controlled substance in connection with a March 5 incident in which he was allegedly found to be in possession of less than one gram of heroin.
