An official groundbreaking ceremony for Mike Shaw Toyota is scheduled for Oct. 24 at 10:30am, at 3232 Highway 77 North in Calallen.

After being away from the Corpus Christi area for nearly 18 years, Mike Shaw is returning to open Mike Shaw Toyota, South Texas' largest Toyota dealership. Shaw said he is bringing the same enthusiasm and quality customer service he had when working at the Tradewinds dealerships from 1973 to 1989.

"I am excited to be working with Darrel Ferguson who will be a partner in the dealership," Shaw said.

Ferguson has over eighteen years of automotive experience, most recently with Toyota, Shaw added.

This nearly $10 million investment will bring economic growth to the Northwest Corpus Christi community, according to a just completed economic impact study conducted by Jim Lee, Ph.D. of Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. The study states that the dealership will create the equivalent of 160 full time jobs and generate more than $13 million in positive economic impact annually to the area.

Mike Shaw Toyota will be a full-service dealership and the first in the area to construct the new Toyota Image II facility. The 45,000 square foot structure houses new and pre-owned sales, an extensive parts department, a fully air-conditioned service department with a carbon monoxide system, a "Quick Lube" facility, and a carwash complete with detail facilities.

The entire facility was designed for the ultimate customer shopping experience, Shaw said. A mall-like atmosphere encourages comfortable, relaxed browsing of the latest models while high-tech design elements are used to differentiate the various models. The dealership features Toyota's unique lighted entry portal element, and the popular Scion brand is prominently displayed with a separate entrance.

The Toyota Image II design not only showcases the latest vehicles, but also ensures the highest level of customer comfort, Shaw added.

"Our facility will provide our customers the greatest possible buying and service experience," Shaw said.

The lounge will maintain a "living room" feel, while the business center provides a quiet, private atmosphere with Internet connections. Additionally, an in-house lounge with a coffee bar will be available along with a children's area for kids to stay occupied in while parents conduct business.

Construction of the new facility is being handled by Teal Construction, a Corpus Christi-owned general contractor founded in 1947 that has built over 400 auto dealerships to date, Shaw said. Architectural services are provided by Gensler and Associates, a nationwide architectural firm headquartered in Dallas.
