Jim Wells County investigators took a 21-year-old man into custody Tuesday after it was discovered that his mobile phone contained images of child pornography.

According to a Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Department press release, Roberto Ramirez was arrested Tuesday at his residence in the Premont area. He was wanted for two outstanding warrants for possession of child pornography.

The warrants stemmed from Ramirez’s arrested by deputies and investigators from the U.S. Marshal’s Office in August. He was taken into custody then after an investigation into an “inappropriate relationship” with a child. According to sheriff’s department Lt. Alan Gonzalez, Ramirez and victim met through a mutual friend shortly before the alleged abuse began. He was arrested in the case and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.

During his arrest, Ramirez’s phone was confiscated. After a warrant was obtained to search the phone, Gonzalez said the child pornography images were found.

Ramirez was jailed in the Jim Wells County Jail on the warrants Tuesday and held on two $30,000 bounds. He was released after posting bail, jail officials said.
